About

I have a wide range of experience treating adults, adolescents, and children. I am dedicated to helping individuals address challenges and life issues, facilitating understanding and an enhanced awareness of the self, in an empathic, creative, and collaborative way. I realize it takes courage to begin treatment, as psychotherapy is hard work and involves a significant commitment of time, energy, and money. I pay attention deeply to the moral, spiritual, and cultural values of my patients and their families. I work with you to tailor the treatment to your individual needs. I participate actively in the therapy process, and do so by providing a thorough initial evaluation and feedback, as well as establishing mutually agreed upon goals.

I have had a broad range of training and work experience, including adult and child/adolescent psychiatric units, a domestic violence shelter, community and school clinics, and a substance abuse clinic. After completing my Ph.D. in clinical psychology, I provided assessment and crisis intervention for patients of all ages with acute psychiatric needs, who were receiving treatment on medical units in a city hospital. In my practice, I often treat individuals struggling with a variety of difficulties including anxiety and depression, relationships, medical illness, employment, and school problems.

I have over twenty years of clinical experience and have specialized in treating patients across the lifespan who have experienced trauma and loss. From more complex trauma to acute responses to traumatic stress, I often incorporate mindfulness techniques and build on coping skills to help support patients in building a foundation of safety and trust before exploring their trauma. Although I work primarily from a psychodynamic framework, I'm able to work nonverbally as well through art therapy, and often incorporate more experiential treatment of Accelerated Emotional Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) into my work. I also have training in Intensive Short-Term Psychodynamic Therapy (ISTDP) which is a unique form of evidence-based psychodynamic treatment that facilitates the rapid resolution of anxiety, depression, somatization, and personality disorders in adults. This treatment also helps target any self-defeating behaviors which may derive from prior trauma or unstable early life attachments. With both adult and adolescent/child patients, I often work with individuals during life transitions such as new romantic relationships, separation/divorce, bereavement, chronic illness, school problems, and parenting struggles. I am also an advocate for maternal mental healthcare, including infertility and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
